New Forge Theme from JMal & Ahaz Designs
Posted on March 10th, 2010 No commentsI believe this is a first review for me for one of JMal Design’s & Ahaz Design’s themes. JMal and I connected on Twitter and I’m happy to say, I am finding this “Forge” theme to be very interesting indeed. The video above can give you an overall idea of how it works but this is definitely a theme for those that like lots going on in the home page. I tested it on my 9700 and scrolling with the trackpad displays a red square box letting you know right away what icon you are selecting. There are also slide out icon docks and other unique features. More information can be found at either of the above websites. Note that versions DO VARY between devices so it is important for you to check out the screen shots and description for your device to make sure you are getting the theme you want. Forge costs $3.99 and is available for the 8900, 9000, 9630, 9700 and 9500.

Theme Review Wednesday: Explicit, Clarion
Posted on March 10th, 2010 No commentsIt’s time again for your bi-weekly helping of premium BlackBerry themes. This week we’ve got new designs from two of our favorite theme developers, Hedone Design and Elecite. They both brought the goods, releasing two excellent, standout themes. I go through a lot of these in order to write this feature, and it seems that while there are a lot of developers that do go out of their ways to create something new and fresh, these two accomplish it regularly. And now I’ll stop gushing and get to the themes.

Stitcher Streaming Audio App Now Supports Storm2 & OS 5.0
Posted on March 10th, 2010 No comments
Stitcher is a innovative on demand news and talk radio application for BlackBerry. They let us know they have updated the application to support the BlackBerry Storm2 9550 & 9520 so now more people can get in on the fun. They took their sweet time supporting the Storm since it first came out in May of 2009 but at least they were working on one.Stitcher is also supported on the BlackBerry Storm, Curve 8300, 8310, 8320, 8900 and Bold 9000 and they will be slowly rolling out support to more devices. I am not sure how the Bold 9700 missed their list but hopefully it is coming soon.

AddOnis Now Works With OS 5.0 Standby/Lock Function
Posted on March 10th, 2010 No comments
Addonis has just released a version specifically for OS 5.0 users that fixes an issue with the Standby/Lock function that was news to me. As Twinkler explained to me:
In versions prior to OS 5.0, pressing the Mute key put the device into Standby mode, while pressing the Keylock key engaged the Keylock Function. Then came OS 5.0 … in some versions these original functions remain operational…. In other versions this function has been modified (we have confirmed this with RIM).

Win a copy of Tether, or even a new BlackBerry
Posted on March 10th, 2010 No commentsIf you tether your BlackBerry smartphone to your laptop for data usage, you might have heard of TetherBerry. Last year we wrote about the company, noting how they could help Mac users in particular. A few things have changed since then, most notably their name. They’re now just plain Tether, though they’re offering the same great tethering service. The company recently turned one year old, and they’re celebrating in grand fashion. They’ve given us 25 copies of the application, which we’re giving away to our readers. Plus, they’re also holding a contest where you can win one of three BlackBerry smartphones, or, if you’re so inclined, one of three Android handsets.

BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS 5.0.0.545 Found Online
Posted on March 10th, 2010 No comments
WOW this is the second BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS leak in 5 days. The latest is OS 5.0.0.545 brought to us by a kind member of the CrackBerry Forums. There are some rumblings about this being a “Gold Release” but leaked OS caveats still apply.NOTE: Do not install this software if you do not know what you are doing. It may make your BlackBerry FUBAR or just plain angry. If you do not know how to upgrade your BlackBerry OS please start by reading this great step by step guide that Luis wrote up. Don’t forget to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:program files>common files>research in motion>apploader to install it on a different carriers device.
Please confirm in the comments if this works for you! Thanks Tashanna for sending this one in!
